Today was Quilts of Valor (QOV) National Sewing Day. Karen and I joined the Knoxville group in sewing quilts for veterans. We were lucky enough to witness a veteran receiving a Quilt of Valor. Leo Bean served in the Navy in World War II. The presenter thanked Leo for his service and for being a hero then presented him a quilt that was Navy themed. He appeared very touched by it.
There were lots of volunteers that showed up and the QOV organization was well organized. There were packages of blocks and/or fabric with instructions to follow for making quilt tops. There were also kits for just making blocks that would later be used in quilt tops. I got a kit that had string pieced blocks that I just had to add sashing and borders to. Karen had cut pieces for making the whole top. The fabric for this event was all supplied by donations made to the QOV. You can donate, nominate a vet or just learn more about the QOV organization at
